Audi RS6 Avant Launch Edition finished in Nardo Grey Full Paint protection film (PPF)
We recently had the above Audi in for a full PPF job. As always, the car was inspected upon arrival and after a conversation with the customer, we got some history on the vehicle, with the car being an Approved Used car from a main dealer.
We then got underway with the first phase – a full decontamination of the exterior paintwork followed by a safe wash process using glue and tar remover, all purpose cleaner and iron fallout remover. Our method is always a two bucket safe wash, and finally the whole vehicle had a claybar treatment to remove any stubborn contaminants.
The car was then brought inside, dried off and inspected under the light – this allows us to inspect for any previous damage to the paintwork, which is always a possibility with a used vehicle. And here we identified a few paint defects such as swirl marks, likely a as a result of poor washing methods by previous owners.
Before the PPF can be applied, this vehicle needed to go through a two-stage machine polishing process to remove swirls and defects in the paintwork, to get the paintwork looking it’s best before the PPF is applied. Every panel received a heavy cut using a cutting compound and pad, followed by refinement, which is a polishing pad and refinement compound.
Once this is completed the car then had a final wash to remove any residue from polishing products. After a final drying, the vehicle is then ready for the PPF to be applied.
To get started, film was cut to fit the panels and then applied one-by-one working consistently around the car. Panels are fitted by adding a lubrication to the bodywork, PPF is then placed on top of the panel, moved and finalised in place, and then smoothed over to remove residue from underneath the film. Once film has dried, edges are folded under and cut accordingly to ensure an exact fit.
After all PPF is fitted, the film was then treated with a ceramic coating specifically designed for PPF surfaces. This makes it slick to the touch and to help with easy future maintenance and washing.
PPF is a thorough process which takes a few days but the benefits are worthwhile. PPF protects against paintwork from damage, acting as a shield from things such as scratches, stone chips and bird etching. Visually PPF helps retain the gloss of the paint surface too. Many customers chose PPF as a way to protect their vehicle and their investment.
